The University of Birmingham is a well-known institution worldwide. When I was in my home country, I had already heard about this university, and I never imagined that I could become one of its students! When I applied for my degree, I didn’t hesitate to list the UoB as my top choice. The main reason was that this university offers my dream subject—Psychology in Education—which I have always aspired to pursue. I am confident that at UoB, I can acquire valuable knowledge and experience.
It has turned out to be exactly what I expected. I am particularly impressed by the teaching quality of the instructors. I especially want to give a shout-out to my Personal Academic Tutor, who is not only friendly but also cares about our academic performance as well as our personal lives.
In addition to studying, joining societies and student organisations is one of the main ways to broaden your social circle and gain knowledge that you can’t acquire from your coursework. I have been a sub-committee member of the Birmingham HKPASS society since my first year, and this year I am serving as the Internal Vice President. Through connecting with fellow Hongkongers studying at UoB, I have gained valuable skills in leadership and event organisation. As a member of the executive committee, I have built my confidence by speaking in front of others, overcoming my initial challenges as a public speaker. I stepped out of my comfort zone and accomplished what I once thought was impossible. I encourage everyone to join societies that may expand your horizons.
For your future career, UoB offers numerous resources to help you find your path. My goal has always been to contribute to the children’s sector, and I aim to work for an NGO focused on children after graduation. While my goal has remained constant, my studies have provided me with opportunities to explore other careers that I was unfamiliar with. I recommend attending the career talks that are held frequently to stay updated on the labour market and discover your own direction during university life.

I'm Clarah, I am a Second Year Psychology in Education student. Also, I'm an international student from Hong Kong.
