Moving from Toronto, Canada, to Birmingham straight from high school was a big step, but it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Leaving my family and friends to pursue my passion for law was challenging at first, but the supportive community at Birmingham quickly made me feel at home.
I chose to study law because of the versatility of the profession. It offers so many different sectors to explore, which keeps my future options open and exciting. One of my favourite modules so far is Contract Law. Understanding the different aspects of how contracts are formed and connecting it to my interest in business has been so fascinating. I am eager to explore this further as it aligns with my goal of working in corporate or commercial law in the future.
Another aspect of the course I love is the focus on legal problem-solving, especially in Criminal Law. It challenges me to think critically and apply legal principles to real-life scenarios. I have also enjoyed analysing case law which has helped all across my studies. The academic staff at the University of Birmingham are incredibly supportive, always encouraging us to ask questions in lectures, seminars and even booking office hours with them.
Beyond academics, the University of Birmingham has so much to offer. I have had the opportunity to join societies like Hindu Society, Canadian Society, Women in Law Society and the Holdsworth Club. The university has over 300+ societies, so there is always something for everyone! Joining societies has made university incredible as I am always meeting new people.
If you are considering Birmingham, I can confidently say it is a place where you will grow academically and personally. The supportive community and inspiring campus make it an amazing place to study. Taking the leap to move here was a great decision for me, and I have no doubt it could be the same for you.
