Reflections and Horizons: My Journey at Birmingham and Beyond
My Highlights at Birmingham and My Future Plan
My Highlights at Birmingham and My Future Plan

As an international student, choosing the right university was challenging since I couldn’t visit in person. I relied on photos and student stories online to get a sense of the options. When deciding between different universities, UOB kept coming to mind, as I am particularly fond of having a spacious campus, and the strong ranking for my degree made it the perfect choice. Thus, I chose UOB at the end when handing in the application.
The highlights of my time at Birmingham are the amazing friendships I’ve formed and the extracurricular opportunities at UOB. I’ve made lifelong friends who, despite our busy schedules, always check on each other and spend quality time together. Being part of UOB’s Swimming team for four years has also been a highlight. I’ve met wonderful people who share my interest in swimming, and it’s been great to connect with a community that shares the same hobby.
After graduating, I plan to train as an English teacher to become one in the future. While I wasn’t initially passionate about my degree, the interesting modules and topics have deepened my interest and respect for the profession. I’ve come to appreciate the effort and thought teachers put into creating effective learning materials and objectives, realising the challenges and dedication the role requires. Moreover, the placement modules in my degree have provided valuable experience working with children, showing me how much I enjoy it. Their unique perspectives inspire me to think differently and work harder to help educate the next generation, fostering their growth into responsible and well-rounded individuals.

I'm Gemmy! I'm currently in my third year of studying BA Education at UoB!
