How did I know the University of Birmingham was the one for me?

Choosing the right University can be a tough decision

Now Is The time YouTube thumbnail. Study at the University of Birmingham.

Choosing the right University can be a tough decision, picking your course is almost easy compared to finding the ideal campus, societies, and city to live in. But when I decided to study at Postgraduate level, staying in Birmingham was an easy decision. Having completed my undergraduate degree here, I had fallen in love with the campus and the city over the last 3 years. I also hadn’t gotten the chance to explore everything the city had to offer yet! On top of that, my friends who had previously studied Marketing raved about the lecturers and opportunities, so my gut instinct was to stay.

If I had to pick a standout moment in Brum, it would have to be my time in BUAC (Birmingham University Athletics Club) the biggest (and some may say best) sports club at the Uni. Although an individual sport, BUAC is like a family which I know people in other clubs can relate to. Birmingham’s position as one of the top UK sporting unis fosters a sense of pride and I have met some of the most brilliant people this way. I would strongly recommend joining a sport or society at Uni, Birmingham has over 300 societies and 60 sports clubs to try out and you can find them through the Guild’s website. Another highlight is seeing campus transform throughout the year. From festive fairs to GradBall and the UoB festival week including a free campus run, I might be biased but there is always a buzz!

I’ve made new like-minded friends on my course this year and I can’t wait to graduate in the Great Hall with them next year! Graduating for my bachelor’s was an amazing experience- and the photos on campus make for some pretty cool Instagram posts!

It seems like a lifetime ago when I first arrived in Birmingham and was apprehensive about what the future might hold. Now my outlook is more positive, and after graduation, I would love to combine my two degrees (Sport and Marketing) to help promote the sporting community- though, for now, I’ve got to finish my degree!
