I feel like one thing every student struggles with at least once in their life is juggling studies and personal interests and still making time to have a social life. I know I've struggled with this as have many of my peers around me. While there are no permanent fixes, there are a few ways I like to keep a balance in my life.

Plan ahead

I know meticulously planning ahead seems daunting and overwhelming and for a lot of people it is, including me. I like to make a general list of thing that need to be done and prioritise them, I make sure to block out time in the week ahead a dedicate specific blocks to hobbies and social gatherings. A lot of the time effective planning helps prevent rushing and future stress. Planning the day can also be done the morning of said day or the night before.

Learn to say no

This is something I struggle with SEVERELY but so do a lot of people, it is really hard to decline an offer to hangout. Sometimes maybe you don't want to, or sometimes you may have other priorities such as an assignment or you would rather spend time alone that day. I tend to ask if we can reschedule to another time when I won't be stressing over the latest assignment or to when I'm in a more sociable mood.

Efficient work habits

Efficiency in work habits can give you more time for social activities. By setting specific work hours and eliminating distractions during these hours, you complete work in a shorter amount of time providing more time for social activities and hobbies.

Group study sessions

For the time where it feels like you are drowning in schoolwork, sometimes there isn't enough time to do fun things with friends. In cases like this, study with friends can be so rewarding because whilst you are being productive and getting work done, you are also engaging in social interactions in a more stress free environment.

Incorporate self care

Focusing on studies can be tiring, and so can participating in social activities, so it is always important to make time for yourself to relax, unwind and take care of your wellbeing [both physical and mental]. A healthy mind and body contribute to go academics and also make social interactions more enjoyable.

While all of these things are helpful, it's important to remember that we aren't perfect and we might not always maintain a perfect work-life balance. It's never wrong to change the way you do things as long as it keeps you feeling fulfilled and we as people are always changing and our priorities are ever evolving.
