Are you beginning your application to university but don't know where to start or where you want to go? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. The application process might seem daunting and stressful, I know it was for me, but it doesn’t need to be scary when you have a guide on how to go through it. This is a simple list to help you through the university application process and hopefully it will help you write complete a brilliant application.
To start off, the most important thing to think about when applying to university is the course you want to study. As much as university may be a place to meet new friends and have new experiences, you have to remember that it is an educational institution. You are going there for the purpose of studying and therefore, your course choice is very important. You may want to study something that you have been passionate about for a long time, something you have a slight interest in, or you might not know yet what you want to study. A course search will help you find the degree that works best for you. It's important when searching for a university to consider if they offer the course that you want to study and if they are a good university for that particular course. When looking at universities that offer the course you want to study, be sure to check out the entry requirements as this will help you determine if you are likely to be accepted by that university. You can also take a look at the modules and forms of assessments to see if you would be happy doing them while studying your chosen course.
Another really important thing to think about when choosing a university is location. Do you want to be in a city or town? Do you want to be close to home or much farther? These are all important factors to consider when choosing a university as the atmosphere and vibes will be different depending on where you go. The cost of living of the uni city you want to go to is also important to consider as prices for rent, shopping, transport and more will differ depending on where you go. The size of the university is also important, because you may want to go to a big university with a large campus or to a smaller one where everyone knows everyone. The size of the university will also help determine your class sizes and the teacher to student ratio. Your preferences are important to consider.
There are several other things that are just as important to think about. Social life is one, and you can research the societies, support, career events and experiences that the universities provide and see if you would enjoy them. You will be in university for a long time, and it is important that you enjoy it. In regard to finances, it is important to consider tuition fees for international students, scholarships if you may need it and the cost of living of the city. Education is important but you do not want to go into financial difficulties while at university so make sure to do extensive research on this. Additionally, it may be important to consider the diversity at the university you choose to go to as meeting people from different parts of the world will help you gain cultural and global insights and shape you as a person.
It's important to do extensive research on where you would like to go and I would suggest making a list with all these different factors and comparing them between universities. It's also really helpful to visit different campuses if you have the chance as it will help you really see it for yourself and determine if you would enjoy being there. I’ll end it off here, I hope this is able to help you to start thinking of what you may want when choosing the universities you apply to and wishing you all the best in your university application process!
