Moving to Birmingham to study at The University of Birmingham has been a big step for me. I come from a rural village, so the big city was a shock to the system. However, I am pleased to say it has been an amazing experience. While the University itself is excellent, the city of Birmingham also has a lot to offer. As a lover of shopping, the Bullring is the perfect place for a trip out, with plenty of nearby cafes. I am also a big fan of art, so I love that the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is so close, not to mention the Barber Institute of Fine Art right on campus!

There’s plenty to do for students in Birmingham, but if you’re someone who prefers to stay close to campus don’t worry about missing out, there’s still lots to do! The Guild has a weekly club night, as well as sports night. I recommend joining a few societies too, as they put on lots of events, and make it easier to meet like-minded people. I recommend film society especially, as they screen two movies each week on campus. There's also an Odeon cinema on New Street, with cheap student tickets!

I’d recommend Birmingham to anyone who’s looking for a lively city, I really think there’s something for everyone. If you’re like me and moving from the countryside, I recommend having a look at all the parks in and around Birmingham – there’s lots of nice walks and open spaces.

Thanks for reading, I hope you find Birmingham just as exciting as I have!
