My top 3 memories of studying at University of Birmingham

I’ve definitely had a lot of great memories over the last few years at UoB. But for now, here’s my top three!

My Top 3 Memories!

1. ValeFest

I absolutely loved ValeFest last summer. It was a beautiful, sunny day in June and the first ValeFest since Covid, so it was definitely a big one. My housemate and I walked through campus and up to the Vale, which as always, was a lovely walk. We met up with our first-year flatmates and some other friends we’ve made at uni and brought ourselves a couple of drinks to sip whilst having a little boogie to all the music. It was so fun to end with the headliner Biig Pig too! After, all of us went back home and got a couple more bevvies before heading to a houseparty in Selly – all in all, a really fun day!

2. Commonwealth Games summer

That same summer of 2022 was when Birmingham held the Commonwealth Games. It was so cool to have our university be the venue for hockey and squash too, especially because I could hear the games from my house in Selly Oak. I really loved being in Birmingham for the majority of that summer, even without university lectures and seminars going on, because Birmingham has so much to do! It was insane to perform in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony at Alexander Stadium in front of thousands of people; it was really lovely to have my friends come to watch the dress rehearsal too. It was just an incredible summer with such a good vibe the entire time.

3. BUDS show and FAB afterparty.

I had a really great time as part of BUDS – the University’s dance society. Last March, I performed in the end-of-year show as part of the Novice Commercial Group and the Final Dance mashup group. I made so many friends along the way and just really enjoyed picking dance up as a hobby again whilst having it as a way to stay active. The week of shows went really well, and the final show afterparty at Fab at the Student Guild was so much fun!

Of course, there are some honourable mentions too:

- ‘Oakley Funeral’ – the last accommodation block party we had at Oakley Courts with all the flats hanging out together and dressing in black.

- Pulling our sofa out from our kitchen to the Oakley Courts courtyard to bathe in the sun and have ice cream, and drinks and listen to some music.

- BBQs in the sun during the 2021 Euros!

- Meeting lots of friends at Cocktail Society!

Always a wonderful time :)
