Why did you choose to study at University of Birmingham?

I choose to study at UOB because of a few reasons. One was because of the amazing research going on at the uni, particularly the work at Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFOR), which I got the amazing opportunity to visit and volunteer for. I also loved how welcoming the community seemed, and all the staff when I visited during my open day. I also loved the social side of the uni and the vast amount of societies that are available to cater tom all hobbies and interests!

Did you face any challenges when deciding what university to study at and, if so, what helped you to choose Birmingham?

I think what helped me decide to choose Birmingham was the atmosphere when I went to visit on open day. Talking to students and staff and walking around the campus myself made me feel like I could  really imagine myself at the uni and it felt like home.

What is the highlight or biggest achievement of your time at the University of Birmingham?

I think my highlight so far has been a non-academic one, rather one related to a society. I would say my highlight was watching and cheering on the Kinvig hockey team as they won the Campus League Tournament last year!

What are your future plans for after you have graduated?

As of now I am unsure, just excited for my final year at university and seeing where life will take me after.

What skills and knowledge did you learn at University of Birmingham?

I have learnt a range of new skills at UOB mainly building upon my research and analytical skills. This includes using new computer software including R, GIS mapping and more.

How have your experiences as a student helped you to think about your future plans, or secure your job?

My experiences particularly in my year 2 core module for ECS have helped me think about future plans. This is because we had some great opportunities to speak to external companies such as Wylde connections and the NHS sustainability team for the Black country, as well as internal member of staff from the University who gave us some great insight into what future sustainability careers could await me.

What advice would you give to students thinking about studying at University of Birmingham?

I would advise to say yes! Studying at UOB has been one of the best opportunity and experience I've had and I believe visiting the uni and experiencing life as a student for the day will show you how great it can be here!
