Why I love Birmingham as a city

Birmingham couldn’t be more different to the small countryside village that I grew up in, so moving here was a huge change for me but I love living here.

Birmingham couldn’t be more different to the small countryside village that I grew up in, so moving here was a huge change for me. It’s a decision I am so happy to have made because Birmingham really is amazing! It has something for everyone no matter who you are, where you’re from and what your interests are.

But what actually is there in Birmingham that makes it so amazing? Here are a few reasons why I love living here…

  • You may think that Birmingham is just another city like every other, but it’s not! It’s a beautiful place to live being one of the greenest cities in the UK and having more miles of canals than even Venice! There are over 550 parks and open spaces meaning there’s always somewhere nearby where you can take yourself on a walk and have a break from the city buzz if you need some alone time. This is perfect for me as it reminds me of where I grew up so there’s always a place that feels a little bit like home.
  • Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe! With such a high population of young people, the city is a vibrant and exciting place to live while you’re studying and extremely easy to meet people of similar ages and interests.
  • The city is centrally located in England with an airport, three main train stations and endless bus routes making it easily accessible from wherever you live. If you’re someone that travels a lot by train or bus, I would really recommend buying a bus or railcard as this will help save a lot of money. As well as this, many bus services in the city also offer big discounts to students so getting around the city is cheap and easy.
  • Nightlife! If like me you love to party and spend nights out with your friends, Birmingham is a perfect energetic city with many bars, clubs and evening activities. My personal favourites are the activity bars such as Ghetto Golf and Roxy Ballroom in Digbeth which are great places to meet new people while participating in some rather amusing games. However, you do not need to drink to still enjoy a great night out!
  • In the heart of the city you’ll find the Bullring shopping centre, a beautiful high street and many museums, art galleries and other cultural destinations. If you’re a big foodie you might want to try out the countless places to eat in The Mailbox, Bullring or in the Chinese Quarter!

Wherever you’re from and whatever your interests are, Birmingham is an amazing city for everyone and I hope some of this information has persuaded you to come and have a look around!
