Before you accept an offer for a university, you will get the chance to visit the campus, speak to other prospective students and speak to your course leaders, as part of offer-holder days. These small visits help to determine if the university and course are right for you. From my own experience, I vividly remember exploring the campus, attending a mock lecture and speaking to academics, one of whom went on to be my dissertation supervisor.
Whilst you may have explored the campus on open days, on offer-holder days you will be in rooms and lectures you will likely have future lectures in. You will also get the opportunity to see what campus is like whilst university students are on campus and will get to see whether the vibe at the university is something that appeals to you. The benefit of attending the offer-holder day is that it comes after you submitted your options, and so will provide you a good opportunity to explore the campus in more depth and seriously consider whether you can see yourself here, in light of having an offer.
On the offer-holder day, you will take part in a mock lecture, which is hugely similar to the ones you would be timetabled to attend after joining. They give you a great feel of what university lectures feel like, and how they feel compared to classroom lessons. The mock lectures provide a great opportunity to learn more about the key themes and ideas in your prospective course. It also allows you the chance to see what teaching staff are like for your course and how their teaching style may suit you for the future.
Over the course of an offer-holder day, you will get the opportunity to speak to at least 2 or 3 members of the teaching faculty, as well as a few current students on your course. It is a great time to ask any burning questions you may have on university or how students are preparing for careers after university. I would strongly recommend attending just to ask the questions you have on your mind, alongside hearing tips current students have to prepare you for the transition to university.
The main purpose of this event is for future students to come and get an insight into their potential university life, as well as to have fun. So, we look forward to seeing you at the next offer holder days!
