Dubai Study Trip
The Accounting and Finance Dubai Study Trip in January 2026 offered Year 2 and final-year students an exciting opportunity to gain international exposure and real-world insight into global financial practices. The trip provided valuable cultural experiences and the chance to build connections, supporting students’ personal and professional development within the Accounting and Finance department.
ACCA Advantage Speed Networking Event
The event started with an introduction from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and a panel presentation featuring qualified accountants from diverse industry backgrounds, who shared their career journeys and experiences, offering students a broad perspective on the various career paths within the accounting field. Students learned about the application process, what it is like to working as an accountant, and received practical career advice. The interactive nature of the session ensured that students could make meaningful connections and maximise their experience.
Guild of Students
As well as MedSoc, the University is also home to the Guild of Students. The Guild of Students is a charity and students’ union for more than 34,000 students studying at the University of Birmingham. If you’re a student here, then you’re automatically a member of the Guild of Students. It is here to help you to develop skills outside of your studies, meet people across the University and to make sure you get the best from Birmingham.
City of Birmingham
As well as the societies you can join, Birmingham also has lot to offer as a city. As the UK’s second city, it really is more thanjust somewhere to study, it is somewhere to enjoy and explore! From museums, festivals, shopping centres, bars and restaurants there is something for everyone in Birmingham - and it's cheaper than you might think!
You can visit the world-famous Bullring shopping centre which is home to over 160 shops, or why not try the open markets, vintage clothes stores and street food outlets in Digbeth? If you fancy a bit of culture, we have a wide variety of theatres, comedy clubs, art galleries and music venues, not to mention the famous curry houses of the Balti Triangle and Cadbury World!
Birmingham is also full of green spaces to relax and unwind in, with over 8,000 acres of parks and open space to escape to, Birmingham is one of the greenest cities in the UK.
