Offer in Principle at Open Day
For a selection of courses we are trialling the concept of an ‘Offer in Principle’ for September 2024 entry to our undergraduate programmes.
What’s an Offer in Principle?
Quite simply, an Offer in Principle is a commitment from us, based on the information you’ve provided to us, to make you an offer for your course of interest. You’ll still need to apply to university via UCAS by the relevant deadline and confirm the information that you’ve initially provided to us.
How it works
For certain subject areas, when you book for one of our undergraduate open days you’ll be asked if you want to be considered for an Offer in Principle.
If you select ‘yes’ then as part of your open day booking we’ll ask you some questions about your GCSEs, the grades you’re expecting to achieve at A level, and there may be other questions depending on your course of interest.
Once you’ve submitted your answers we’ll assess whether we can consider you for an Offer in Principle.
As part of your open day visit you’ll then be able to undertake a short 1-to-1 consultation with an academic admissions tutor, who will confirm that the information you’ve provided is accurate, and let you know if you’re eligible for an Offer in Principle.
This consultation is informal and it isn’t an interview! There’s no need to prepare in advance, and it’s just a chance for you to get your questions answered about the course you are interested in and for the academic admissions tutor to confirm the information that you have provided is correct.
After your chat, if you’re eligible we’ll issue you with an Offer in Principle letter that is our commitment to give you an offer should you apply to Birmingham for 2024 entry by the required deadline. The letter will also detail the required grades you'll need to achieve to secure your place at Birmingham for September 2024.
