Award Description

The Bury Hometown Award is aimed at providing financial support to students with verified household incomes of below £42,600 and who were resident in the Bury Council geographical area during their A Levels or equivalent qualification.

This Award has been created by an alumnus of the University originally from the Bury Council geographical area, grateful for the public funding he received to study at Birmingham, which helped him to build his own career. The Award, which will run for a limited period, is accordingly intended to assist one new student annually, who is from his own hometown and from a modest family income background, and who has similarly chosen undergraduate study at Birmingham to help them achieve their full potential and underpin their own career

Value of Award

This scholarship is valued at £1,500 per academic year, subject to successful academic progression.

Eligibility Criteria

This scholarship is open to UK students who meet the following criteria:

  • Domiciled in the UK
  • During A-Levels (or equivalent qualification) their home address was located within the Bury Council geographical area
  • Have a verified household income of £42,600 or less

In the case that more applications are received than meet the above eligibility  criteria, the award will be made to any applicant whose home address is located in the town of Radcliffe.
