Supporting our students

More than 1000 hours from more than 200 alumni.

Our graduates gave an astonishing amount of time to our students this academic year.  By volunteering, our alumni help to give our students the best possible opportunities at University as well as after they graduate.

With your help, we deliver support from mentoring and careers conferences to work experience, and skills workshops. Connecting with alumni enables our students to see the vast range of career prospects for Arts and Law graduates - after attending a networking event, a student said, “It was helpful to get an insight into different career paths - I’m excited about my next step! It was also useful that I got to speak with a good range of alumni in varying careers.”

One of the most valuable things you offer our students is the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in a particular field. This year, our alumni offered 20 CALstudents internships and work experience.

Jess Smith, a law student at the University, spent three weeks in London at Piper Smith Watton (PSW) with PSW consultant and UoB alumnus, Ian Insley. He said, “As a Birmingham alumnus, I am keen to support students to gain real, practical experience. Offering work experience allows students to make informed decisions further down the line about what type of firm will suit them.”

We are always looking for more ways in which our alumni can get involved and support our students in expanding their skills. Whether you can spare 10 minutes or want to host a work experience student - there’s a range of ways you can give back.
