Who are you currently working for and what, in brief, does your role entail?
I have joined URS’ Tunnelling and Underground Structures team as a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer after graduating from the University of Birmingham in July 2013.
What is the best thing about what you are doing now?
I can be part of big multinational teams working on landmark projects. It is always nice when you travel on London’s underground to feel proud that you took part in its design.
To what extent did your degree set you up for your career?

What were the most positive and also the most challenging aspects of your course?
Coming straight from the army and trying to force myself to study was the greatest challenge. However, my tutor always tried to help me and I received tremendous help from him, which eased my transition.
What advice would you give to current students studying your course?
Do not take shortcuts since most of the times, you must do the same work again.
What was your favourite thing about the university?
Parties.
What is your best memory of your time at Birmingham?
After parties.
