Postgraduate research (PGR) students from the University of Birmingham's College of Engineering and Physical Sciences were recognised for the excellence of their teaching at the Teaching Academy Awards ceremony held last month at the Westmere postgraduate research hub in Birmingham.
Andrea-Ina Radu (pictured) from the School of Computer Science received a Teaching Academy Award and a £300 prize. Fellow Computer Science postgraduate research student Richard Thomas, along with Brian Taylor from the School of Mathematics, were also highly commended for their contribution to teaching at the University and both received a £50 prize. Students from Colleges across the University were also recognised for the contribution they have made to teaching and supporting student learning.
First held in 2016, the Teaching Academy Awards are designed to recognise the contribution postgraduate research students make to teaching and student support at the University of Birmingham. The awards are issued by the Teaching Academy, which promotes excellence, innovation and scholarship in teaching and learning, and raises the profile and recognition of teaching across the University. It provides a forum for staff and postgraduates who teach and support student learning to share good practice, and encourages an evidence-based approach to teaching and learning. It confers awards to staff and postgraduate researchers for excellence in their contributions to teaching and supporting student learning.
