Students from Birmingham’s UBRacing in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences competed in Formula Student, an international motorsport competition at Silverstone last week (9-13 July).

The UBRacing team which comprised 100 students from multiple disciplines across the University placed 19th from 114 teams competing. This calendar highlight run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers now draws teams from 38 different countries around the world.

Formula Student is backed by industry and high profile engineers and aims to inspire and develop enterprising and innovative young engineers. Universities from across the globe are challenged to design and build a single-seat racing car in order to compete in static and dynamic events, which demonstrate their understanding and test the performance of the vehicle. The cars are judged on their speed, acceleration, handling and endurance in a series of time-trial races, while the teams themselves are tested on their design, costing and business presentation skills.

More information about Birmingham's performance in the competition is available from UBRacing's Pippi Hornsby here.
