Dr. Zhening Li

Research Fellow in Computational Optimization

Zhening’s research interests are in the area of optimization, algorithm design and analysis, with applications including financial engineering, game theory, signal processing, etc. His recent research focuses on algorithms and applications of polynomial optimization and tensor computation problems.

Dr. Sandor Zoltan Nemeth

Senior Lecturer in Optimisation

Sandor is a member of the Theoretical and Applied Optimisation Group. His main research area is Mathematical Equilibrium Systems which can be applied to Economics and Physics, using investigative tools of: Convex Analysis and Optimisation, Nonlinear Analysis, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebraic Structures, General and Algebraic Topology, Differential Geometry. From 2010-13 he was Director of 3rd Year BSc in the School of Mathematics and before joining Birmingham. He has been a Lecturer in the School since 2005 and this year was promoted to Senior Lecturer.

Dr. Rachel Nicks

Lecturer in Mathematics

Rachel’s research uses dynamical systems theory to develop new techniques to better describe the dynamics of networks of nonlinear oscillators, including networks of neurons. Previously she was a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham working with Dr. Gareth Parry on symmetry properties of crystals with defects.

Dr. Nikolaos Pattakos

Research Fellow in Analysis

Nikolaos is a member of the Mathematical Analysis Group in the School of Mathematics. He has a number of publications in international journals and has delivered talks about his research in workshops and conferences. Nikolaos achieved a PhD in Harmonic Analysis from Michigan State University in 2012.

Dr. Alain Zemkoho

Research Fellow in Optimization

Alain is a Research Fellow in Optimization. His research interests are in Mathematical Optimization and Operational Research. He is particularly interested in nonsmooth and nonconvex optimization with their applications to multilevel and transportation problems. Before coming to the University of Birmingham, Alain was a Research Associate at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany. He has also spent research stays at Wayne State University, USA (2011) and KU Leuven, Belgium (2013).

Dr. Yunbin Zhao

Senior Lecturer

Yunbin has been a lecturer of theoretical and computational optimization at the University since 2007. His main research interests include operations research, computational optimization, and numerical analysis. He has published over 42 research papers in scientific journals and has recently been promoted to Senior Lecturer.
