The School of Physics & Astronomy has made a number of excellent appointments over the past couple of months:

Dr Thomas Leadbeater
Lecturer

Dr Leadbeater currently teaches radiation detection and Monte Carol theory & practise. His research interests are in the field of positron imaging using are variants of the medical technique of positron emission tomography (PET) adapted for engineering applications. The technique of positron emission particle tracking (PEPT), developed at Birmingham, allows a single positron-emitting tracer particle to be accurately tracked at high speed and has proved to be a very powerful tool for studying the behaviour of granular materials and viscous fluids in systems such as mixers and fluidised beds.

Dr John Veitch
Research Fellow

Dr Veitch is part of the Gravitational Physics Group. His research interests include:
• Gravitational wave detection and astronomy
• Bayesian methods
• Large scale computing

Other appointments include:
• Mr Dimitri Hapiuk, Experimental Research Officer
• Ms Sara Lawrence, Research Students Support Administrator
• Mr Christopher Parkinson, Research Fellow
• Dr Daniel Reese, Research Fellow
• Shiyi Xiao, Research Fellow
