This semester has been an absolute joy and I couldn't be more proud of all that the committee has accomplished in such a short space of time!
They went above and beyond taking the time and effort to secure extra resources and funding, put on new events and schemes such as the international buddy scheme and completely revamp the feedback system with our new weekly Student Voice sessions. The new system enabled chemical engineers to raise their concerns to academic staff much more frequently, thereby making the process a lot faster.
Our yearly welcome dinner was, as always, such a great way to start the term. I'd like to thank our second years for the great response to the family scheme with over 60 of you signing up to be "parents" for our 140 first years and really making the social what it is. The effort shown in all your costumes was superb!
And a special thank you to our alumni Ken Severs on behalf of the whole society, welcome dinner could not be what it is without your donations!
Squeezing this in with GoKarting, Laserquest, Pub Golf, the Christmas party and the Coniston trip, which helps first years get to know each other and their lecturers, was definitely a challenge and Kyle our social secretary, has done a fantastic job. Our other largest event, the Industrial dinner, is also still one of our most successful events well attended by both companies and students with a long list of high profile companies such as Exxon, BP, Atkins, Mondelēz and many others networking with all who attended.
We hope this has helped you in securing an internship or job and if it has, be sure to thank Seb our Industrial Rep for all his hard work.
And throughout all this our charity rep Natalie has been hard at work, running half marathons, raffles and pub quizzes all throughout the semester with a grand total of £2,220 raised split between our chosen charities MIND and Acorns.
We know you guys are excited for next semester, buying up all 240 of the tickets available to Frank Morton, the national chemical engineering student sports day, with potentially more tickets to come.
We hope this enthusiasm continues next semester and I for one am certainly excited.
