It’s all hands on deck for as BUCES hit the ground running for a new academic year.

Freshers were warmly welcomed by their second year parents at the annual Welcome Dinner to launch our high successful buddy scheme. Each new fresher joining us in September joins a “family” of fellow chemical engineers to help them settle in to uni life. Thank you to all the parents who embraced their children and each family’s animal costumes were amazing! A very special thank you from all of us to Ken Severs, the greatest alumnus, for donating to the event. We couldn’t run such a fabulous event without you.

This term has been very busy with charity events well underway. Our incredible runners ran the Birmingham Half Marathon, raising £950 for MIND. By giving information and advice to people with mental health problems, MIND supports not just students but everyone and is a charity very close to our hearts.

To celebrate our return to University, all years came together for our annual pub golf. An essential part of the BUCES calendar, finishing in Popworld (of course!). Our Social Secretaries have been busy this term also planning our trampolining social and international food carnival, and they can’t wait to bring you all to the Botanical Gardens for the Winter Ball in January.

Alongside all this we hosted our annual Industrial Dinner. The event was a huge success with 140 guests all sponsored by 12 companies including ExxonMobil, BP, Unilever and Atkins. There was an informal careers fair, followed by students sitting with companies for dinner. We hope everyone found it valuable and that it helped them with their applications.

Next term will be just as busy with Winter Ball, Frank Morton (yes it’s back!) and many other socials. To keep up to date check out our Facebook page where we announce all our events.

We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year; we can’t wait for our next term events.
