Hello EPS Community! We are UBLoco, a society dedicated to building and running 10 ¼ “ gauge railway locomotives, showcasing new railway technology and attracting media attention.
This is our launch as a society, but we have been a locomotive team for years. That locomotive, Hydrogen Hero, is not only the first hydrogen-powered train to carry passengers in the UK but also a political influence, having been demonstrated to both the Secretary of State for Transport and his Shadow counterpart. Hydrogen Hero also placed first out of all the student teams at the 2018 IMechE Railway Challenge, only losing to two industrial groups. This proved a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people from around the country and even beyond.
Our main focus at the moment is developing a battery-powered locomotive to complement the Hero. We intend to have this new locomotive operational in the summer and therefore any help would be very much appreciated! This will involve both electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as numerous control and subsystems.
In other words; engineers wanted!
Plus, as a new society we require more than just engineering expertise. There is much to be done in the way of branding, social media, organisation, and many other areas in order to make this society the huge success we want it to be. This is an opportunity to make your mark, and we welcome with open arms anyone who wants to contribute.
