Welcome to the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences
The University of Birmingham has been welcoming overseas students almost since its inception in 1900. From the very beginning, our Engineering and Science disciplines have played a major role in forming mutually beneficial partnerships with overseas institutions in both research and teaching. To this day students from across the globe continue to seek out our top quality teaching, our modern, state-of-the art laboratory and lecturing facilities and a student social life second to none; all set in a beautiful, self-contained safety conscious campus.
Join our international community and share in our remarkable achievements.
We are forging partnership agreements with prestigious institutions around the world that allow students from those institutions to also study at the University of Birmingham. You can visit our partnership pages on China, India and Malaysia to see whether your institution has an agreement with us.
We are eager to ensure that you are well looked after whilst you are with us and are especially aware that you may feel the need for access to advice and support services more keenly whilst settling into a new country and, perhaps, a new culture. You can access help on our Welcome pages. This offers guidance in all areas before and after you arrive. Once you are with us you will, of course, have tutors on hand in your chosen school and welfare services on campus who will be only too pleased to continue to help.
We offer a wide variety of scholarships and bursaries for undergraduate students, many of which are open to international applicants.
Learn about the experiences of our international students:
“When I came to the University of Birmingham I was surprised to see magnificent red brick buildings in a graceful campus environment – it is a dream for me to study in these surroundings.
The academic atmosphere in the School of Mathematics is always evident and the level of teaching is very high. Our teachers are all very friendly and a lot of them are professors who themselves graduated from excellent universities.
Another reason I enjoy studying and living here is the number of people I have met and friends I have made from other countries and cultures around the world. I believe when you give, it will come back; so don’t be afraid to give to Birmingham what you have already learned and it will come back many times over.”
Tian Zhang, Mathematics with Business Management student from Harbin Institute of Technology, China.
