Increase in Medical School places
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced in October 2016 that an extra 1,500 training places would be created across the UK’s Medical Schools.
It has since been confirmed that the University has been awarded 25 additional UK/EU places for the Medicine and Surgery MBChB course starting in September 2018, taking our total intake to 399 students per year.
Professor David Adams, Head of the College of Medical and Dental Sciences and Dean of Medicine, has welcomed the announcement, saying: 'It is an exciting opportunity for the Medical School that happens infrequently. It is also a positive step forward for the medical profession and will provide more opportunities for aspiring doctors both in the region and nationally.
'The increased places will support the needs of a growing and evolving NHS to ensure that the best possible care can be provided to the nation, and we will continue to produce medical professionals of the highest standard who can deliver that outstanding care.'
