Phyo Khaing, a 3rd year Medical student at the University of Birmingham was awarded the prize for best poster at the Universitas 21 Undergraduate Research Conference held from 7th-11th July 2014 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
2014 marked the 10th anniversary of this annual conference, with students nominated to attend by Universitas 21 partner institutions around the world, who also fund their travel and accommodation. Attendees are given the opportunity to showcase their research in front of an international audience of students and staff, either as an oral or poster presentation.
Each event focusses on a specific field of research, with this year’s theme being ‘Food Safety: from farm to table’. Phyo’s poster showcased her research on whole fat milk consumption and ischaemic heart disease and she was eager to share news of her success when she returned to the UK, “it was such an amazing experience. I had the best time in Shanghai and I'd like to sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend such a conference like this”.
