Dr Kirsty Hill

I joined the School of Dentistry in July 1999, working on the National Evaluation of Personal Dental Services and gained my first lectureship in September 2002. Over the last 20 years, I have focused primarily on education, and research in dental epidemiology, dental stress and managing dentally anxious patients.

In January 2019 I became Head of Education for the School of Dentistry, which includes all undergraduate (BDS, Biomedical Materials Science and Dental Hygiene and Therapy programmes) in the School and postgraduate education.

During 2018-19 academic year I coordinated a team of academics to prepare for our five year general dental council inspection in February/June 2019 and we look forward to receiving the outcome in July. I am very focussed on developing a modern curriculum and over the last five years made significant changes to the Pre-clinical years, including reducing the assessment burden and developing a responsive approach to student feedback.

I am now preparing to undertake a full curriculum review of the BDS programme from September, which was last undertaken in 1994. My vision is to increase the clinical exposure for our students in the early years and develop an innovative curriculum that embraces digital learning and modern teaching techniques fit for the next generation of dental surgeons. My mission is to make the University Of Birmingham School Of Dentistry a national leader in undergraduate education.
