Biography

Clive Hickman was born in Coseley, West Midlands, and studied at the University of Wolverhampton, Aston University and Loughborough University, holding a BSc and a PhD in mechanical engineering and a MBA.

During his career, he has been Chief Executive of Tata Motors European Technical Centre, Engineering Director of Tata Motors, Managing Director of Ricardo UK, Engineering Director at MIRA and Executive Engineer with Rover Group.

Clive was the CEO of the MTC since it was founded in 2010 until 2023 and is now the Chairman of MTC.

He also Chairs the Transport Research Foundation, the National Ship Building Office Shipyard of The Future project, and is the Deputy President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Clive won the Institute of Directors Chair’s Award for Excellence and Board Practice for the West Midlands and The Royal Academy of Engineering Sir Frank Whittle Gold Medal in 2021.

In the 2022 New Years Honours List he was awarded OBE for services to Engineering and Manufacturing.

Locally, Clive chaired the Midlands Manufacturing Resilience Commission in 2020.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
