Over 100 researchers, clinicians, professional services staff and industry partners came together for a day on the theme “From Ideas to Practice: Bringing Health Innovation into Action”. Sessions covered regional support for spinouts, intellectual property and commercialisation, and implementation science, alongside oral and poster presentations from across the College. Professor Rik Bryan and Michael Parks of Nonacus gave the keynote on the development of the GALEAS Bladder test.

Translating Research into Patient Benefit, The Entrepreneurial Journey, 29 September 2026, Precision Health Technologies Accelerator

Held the day before the Symposium, this workshop explored how entrepreneurial thinking and skills support the translation of research into patient benefit. Pete Moores of PBM Consulting led an afternoon workshop on the entrepreneurial side of translational research, with contributions from Medtechtomarket and the Translational Research Team’s Expert in Residence. The session finished with an innovators’ pitching competition. 

A day of practical advice for University of Birmingham researchers preparing applications to MRC translational funding schemes. Programme Managers from the MRC’s Translation team set out current funding strategy and open schemes, UoB researchers shared their experience of securing MRC translational awards, and review panel members discussed what makes a strong application. One-to-one appointments with the Programme Managers ran through the day.
