Alex has created a vlog about life as a Chemical Engineering student at the University of Birmingham:
Excellent career prospects
Birmingham Chemical Engineering graduates are highly valued from all sectors, not just in petrochemical, food and pharma roles but also in accountancy and business management and analysis. We see our graduates succeed wherever numeracy, team work and project management are requisite skills.
At Birmingham we believe in engaging teaching and learning. In addition to traditional lectures and exercise classes, you will have projects, group work and problem solving sessions. Furthermore there is the opportunity to participate in peer supported learning: student led tutorial sessions in which upper years reinforce their learning by assisting first years in specially designed tutorial classes.
Social atmosphere and engaged students
The School provides a friendly, active and supportive community encompassing both academic and social life. The student led society, BUCES (Birmingham University Chemical Engineering Society), is active from day one helping newcomers from home and abroad settle into University life. BUCES organises numerous social events the highlights of which include the Industrial Dinner (chance to network with future employers), the Winter Ball (chance to get dressed to impress) and Frank Morton (chance to make the School proud at this national sporting event). Furthermore, BUCES is proactive in industrial engagement and facilitates numerous in-school recruitment events with major companies.
