Welcome to INLOGOV's new-look termly newsletter. We aim to share news on our research, teaching and staffing, and reflect on policy developments and the context for local government.
The world of local government remains a challenging one for those working within it, whether as officers or elected members. INLOGOV offers timely and relevant research and support for public servants and elected members. We are investing in distance and blended learning so that those wishing to combine employment with studying are better able to flex the way in which they study to suit their needs. We continue to offer executive development programmes, including the Total Leadership programme run with SOLACE, and the new Aspiring Public Health Leaders' programme. Our research provides timely and relevant insights and evidence about local government, for example Professor Vivien Lowndes' research on the impact of the on-going austerity agenda in the UK.
It's becoming more and more important for local government to create strong partnerships with other parts of the public and private sector. At INLOGOV we recognise the importance of collaboration and have developed our relationships with colleagues with complementary skills and knowledge , in order to strengthen our research and teaching offer. We have established strong relationships and won work with Health Services Management Centre, Public Health, the Centre for Criminal Justice, the Geography and Transport departments and the Business School. In addition we have strong international links, which enables learning across different countries, as evidenced by Dr Catherine Durose's Horizon 2020 project on Smart Urban Intermediaries. We will continue to seek opportunities for collaboration across the University, the UK and internationally.
