faculty-day-01

Dr. Karin Bottom, Director of Teaching and Learning, discusses her role and provides valuable information for prospective students by outlining the range of courses that INLOGOV has to offer.

In September I became INLOGOV's Director of Teaching and Learning. This has provided me with an opportunity to work with  my INLOGOV  colleagues to  further develop our teaching offer and consider how we can improve what we think are already a very exciting suite of postgraduate programmes and professional development courses.

The Institute of Local Government Studies (INLOGOV) is considered to be the leading academic centre involved with teaching local governance and related areas of public management, public administration and commissioning. No matter whether applicants are looking for short term professional development options or a post graduate qualification, our range of programmes provide them with opportunities to reflect on their knowledge, learn new approaches and develop fresh perspectives.

Studying with INLOGOV provides students with an opportunity to  be taught by academics whose teaching is informed by their research and consultancy. They benefit from our extensive links with policy and practice and learn from senior leaders who contribute to our suite of teaching programmes.  Most importantly, INLOGOV is a student-focused department and we recognise that our students have to balance their study with professional responsibilities;  for this reason we offer  campus based and online learning options and however our practitioner students  choose to study with us,  they will learn alongside professionals working in areas allied to their  own.

Karin Bottom is Director of Teaching and Learning in the Institute of Local Government Studies at the University of Birmingham and she oversees the Department's full time and part time MSc in Public Management.
