We asked students and alumni from the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences to name their favourite place in Birmingham to socialise after lectures. Here's what they had to say...
For me, the best place on campus is around Chancellor’s Court and Old Joe (even if I still won’t walk underneath!) I find it quite relaxing wandering around the University grounds and just taking it all in sometimes, the lovely architecture and even the peace and quiet occasionally, be it day or night. I enjoy showing friends and family around and it's part of the reason I love coming here – it's unique!

My favourite places to hangout after lectures is Food Court in the University Centre. It has tables and chairs as well as sofas which are relaxing and comfortable. My friends and I often have some chat over the delicious food provided at the outlets after lectures. We are all big fans of Burrito and the salad is also great and healthy at the same time.

In Mech Eng we had a student common room (probably called it something else) on the main floor. Everyone congregated there - newspapers, coffee, conversation). Happened to be in the area a year or too later and went looking. Our room was something else - don't know where people went then. Bit sad.

In Chem Eng we played a lot of pool in the common room. The table may have been level once, but by our time it presented certain topographical challenges. The pool cues didn't really have cork tips, but ended in blunt metal. I like to think our skills were honed by these drawbacks. I also remember cutting back on sugar when I realized I couldn't tell the difference between the coffee and the tea when they both had five spoonfuls. Of course, this was before Red Bull so we had to make do.

Mech Eng common room moved to a new extension at the Biology/SportEx end of the building while I was there. Part of the merging with Manufacturing Engineering department. Spent too much time there myself playing table football.
