The National Centre of Universities and Business (NCUB) has featured the University of Birmingham’s Human Interface Technologies Team (HIT) as an example of successful collaboration between higher education and business.
The HIT Team, led by Professor Robert Stone, was selected for its innovative use of Virtual and Augmented Reality to collaborate with defence medics and commercial companies to transform emergency response training.
The HIT Team’s Medical Emergency Response Teams (MERTs) training simulator exploits the latest generation of Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) technologies and techniques to create realistic operational environments, reconfigurable to represent a range of land, air and sea rescue vehicles. In doing so, the project delivers significant cost savings and flexible, high quality training for lifesavers.
