This book is a major output from the European Research Council-funded COMPAUL project. It is the first collation of the Old Latin material for Romans, 1&2 Corinthians and Galatians since Sabatier's ground-breaking volumes published in 1751. Since then many new manuscripts have been identified, and the writings of early Christian authors have been edited and reconstructed to modern scholarly standards. The sources now comprise twenty-six Vetus Latina manuscripts, ten commentaries written between the fourth and sixth centuries and four early testimonia collections, whose text differs in many ways from the standard Vulgate version. The new collation will therefore become a standard resource in referring to this material.

The book itself is available to download in Open Access from the Brill website and UBIRA. The full-text electronic transcriptions on which it is based are freely available from Birmingham's edata website for Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians and Galatians and can also be viewed online at www.epistulae.org

Professor Hugh Houghton, who led the COMPAUL project and co-authored the book with DDr Christina Kreinecker, Dr Rosalind MacLachlan and Dr Catherine Smith said:

I am delighted that, with the publication of this book, we have made available for other researchers the extensive data on the Old Latin tradition gathered during the COMPAUL project. I hope that it will prove a reliable source for anyone interested in investigating the textual history of these epistles. I am particularly pleased that two students at Birmingham are already using this material in their doctoral research. This research follows the standards and software which have been developed at ITSEE, and I would like to thank my colleagues, especially Dr Catherine Smith, for their hard work in producing both the book and the accompanying electronic resources. Thanks, too, to Brill and the European Research Council for enabling its publication in Open Access.
