Professor Hugh Houghton gave a public lecture in August at the Musica Deo Sacra festival in Tewkesbury
The director of Birmingham's Institute for Textual Scholarship and Electronic Editing, Professor Hugh Houghton, was recently invited to give a lecture as part of the Musica Deo Sacra festival on music and liturgy at Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. This well-established event attracts people from across the world each year for a week of performance and study.
Professor Houghton spoke on the topic of "The History and Manuscripts of the Latin Bible", with special attention to the use of the Latin Bible in Church Music and extensive illustrations of biblical manuscripts. The public lecture was well attended and held in the historic setting of the Old Baptist Chapel opposite Tewkesbury Abbey.
"The lecturer was amazingly enthusiastic ... and it was inspiring to be present"
Those in attendance also had the opportunity to examine the newly-published Oxford Handbook of the Latin Bible, edited by Professor Houghton, and acquire copies of this and his handbook on The Latin New Testament at a discount from the publisher.
