On the 11 and 12 March 2024, Professor Martin Trybus delivered lectures and led a case study discussion on the European Legal Framework for Defence Procurement
On the 11 and 12 March 2024 IEL Director Professor Martin Trybus delivered 3 lectures and led a case study discussion at a seminar on the European Legal Framework for Defence Procurement at the Security and Defence Academy of the Republic of Cyprus in Nicosia.The audience consisted of representatives of the army, navy, and air force of the National Guard (the armed forces of the Republic of Cyprus) as well as the police and border guard. His lectures covered the interpretation of Article 346 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, the coverage of the Defence and Security Procurement Directive 2009/81/EC, as well as the procedures and technical issues of the Directive. Professor Trybus is a leading expert on EU defence procurement regulation and regularly contributes to courses of this kind, especially at the European Institute of Public Administration in Maastricht, The Netherlands. This was his third appearance in Cyprus after a similar event in Nicosia in 2018 and at a course lead by the European Defence Agency in Larnaka in 2023.
