On 11 September 2015 Professor Martin Trybus, Director of the Institute of European Law at the Birmingham Law School delivered a presentation at the ‘Inkoopdag Defensie’, the Procurement Day of the Dutch Armed Forces at the Oirschot Army Base near Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The Inkoopdag is an annual event for the entire defence procurement establishment of The Netherlands, gathering about 400 civil servants, military personnel, lawyers, and defence company representatives.

In his presentation, Professor Trybus analysed the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on defence procurement in Germany. Just like The Netherlands, Germany is investing considerable funds in defence procurement, aiming to build the largest national armed forces in Western Europe. It appears this build-up led to acceleration and legal amendments impacting the effect of EU law and judicial review. Professor Trybus was the only foreign guest invited to contribute to this event.
