The University of Birmingham produces some of world’s most employable graduates.
The University of Birmingham has been named among the world’s top 250 institutions for producing the most employable graduates by the Global Employability University Ranking & Survey 2026 (GEURS).
Birmingham is one of only 16 UK universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, listed in the ranking which surveys major international employers to identify which universities they believe best prepare students for the workplace.
Produced by Times Higher Education (THE) in collaboration with French HR consultancy Emerging, this year GEURS lists 250 universities spanning 42 countries. Birmingham placed at 159th - a 10-place rise from last year’s ranking.
Ensuring our students are ready for the world of work is a priority of our 2030 Strategy and featuring among the world’s top 250 institutions for graduate employability further demonstrates the powerful advantages of a University of Birmingham education.
The global accolade follows the University of Birmingham recently being named for the second consecutive year as the number one institution for attracting the UK’s top 100 graduate employers - according to the Graduate Market report compiled by High Fliers.
The University’s Careers Network offers extensive career support and employer engagement opportunities. Students and alumni benefit from tailored careers guidance, as well as regional, national, and global internship programmes. Through its innovative Elevate programme, the University fosters student enterprise and business incubation, with over 100 businesses founded since 2021.
Birmingham partnered with the University of Glasgow earlier this year to give Chinese students specialist support to help them with their job search on returning to their home country. The universities launched an exclusive partnership with JOBShaigui, a leading graduate career support organisation, to help graduates kick-start their careers after finishing their degrees in the UK.
Professor Deborah Longworth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) at the University of Birmingham, said: “Ensuring our students are ready for the world of work is a priority of our 2030 Strategy and featuring among the world’s top 250 institutions for graduate employability further demonstrates the powerful advantages of a University of Birmingham education.
“As well as developing specialised disciplinary and professional expertise, studying at Birmingham delivers training in core skills that employers value. Our students benefit from exceptional industry links and extensive careers support, both integrated within our curriculum and across our co- and extra-curricular activity, ensuring they are a great fit for employers seeking graduate recruits who can hit the ground running.”
GEURS 2026 gathers 119,967 votes from 12,350 employers across 32 countries and 22 business sectors, identifying the world’s 250 leading institutions for employability. Employers can vote for institutions in their own country and around the world, if they recruit internationally.
The survey translates employers’ perceptions and recruitment experience into answering a single question: which universities do employers believe train the best talents, and why?
