Professor Hugh Houghton's new book, "A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament", was given the honour of a panel review in Boston last week.

The Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament, written by Professor Hugh Houghton in conjunction with the new sixth edition of the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament was published by the German Bible Society in July.
This volume describes all the textual variations listed in the edition, with English translations of all the alternative Greek readings. There are over 1,200 entries, as well as a glossary and up-to-date bibliography. The substantial introduction introduces the practice of New Testament textual criticism and explains the history of the edition. It replaces the classic textual commentary by Bruce M. Metzger, first published in 1971.
As a landmark publication in the field, the new book had a review session dedicated to it at the Annual Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in Boston last week. Following a presentation of the publisher's perspective by Dr. Florian Voss, five professors gave their assessment of the commentary: Tommy Wasserman (Sweden), Michael W. Holmes (editor of the SBL Greek New Testament), Margaret Mitchell (Chicago), Elizabeth Schrader Polczer (Villanova) and Amy Anderson (Minnesota)
Finally, Professor Houghton offered a response to the other presenters. The session was extremely well attended, with much interest in the new book.
