The Birmingham MBA in Singapore combines online and in-person learning designed to allow flexibility so you can study around work and other commitments. Our in-person learning is taught over residential weekends running from Friday evening to Sunday evening in conjunction with seven-week blocks of online learning.

The Birmingham MBA will challenge you to reflect on your approach to responsible business and help you develop key skills for your future. This post-experience master programme is designed to be flexible. You can also tailor your studies around your passions and interests with our three specialist areas focusing on Innovation & Business Transformation; Marketing; International Business & Strategy, plus our Global Perspectives in Responsible Business module.

Modules

Students must complete the following core modules:

Core modules:

  • Purposeful Leader (20 credits)
  • Global Perspectives on Responsible Business (10 credits)
  • Understanding the Economy (10 credits)
  • Accounting, Accountability and Decision-Making (10 credits)
  • Managerial Finance (10 credits)
  • People Management and Organisations (10 credits)
  • Marketing (10 credits)
  • Strategy in a Complex and Uncertain World (10 credits)
  • Sustainable Operations (10 credits)

Students must also choose ONE of the following.

  • MBA Company Project (40 credits)
  • Entrepreneurial Project (40 credits) Please note:To take the Entrepreneurial Project, students must have previously taken Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
  • Research Project: Dissertation (40 credits)

Students must also choose an additional 40 credits from optional modules. When choosing from the optional modules, students can also choose a specialism (exit qualification).

There are three specialisms’ students can choose from:

Marketing Specialism

Students who wish to be awarded the exit qualification: MBA (Marketing) must choose at least TWO of the following modules:

  • Digital Marketing
  • Corporate Communication and Reputation Management 
  • Services Marketing *
  • Global Marketing Consultancy: International Residential [Immersive module] *

International Business & Strategy Specialism  

Students who wish to be awarded the exit qualification: MBA (International Business and Strategy) must choose:

  • International Business in a Complex Environment 

AND at least ONE of the following modules:

  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Change Management
  • Cooperative Strategy and Systems Thinking *

Innovation & Business Transformation Specialism

Students who wish to be awarded the exit qualification: MBA (Innovation and Business Transformation) must choose:

  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation

AND at least TWO (no more than THREE, and no more than ONE immersive module) of the following modules:

  • Business Model Innovation *
  • Fintech, Digital Finance and Blockchain
  • 4th Industrial Revolution, AI and Data *
  • International Business Experience: Doing Business in Mexico (Immersive Module) *
  • Doing Business in the Middle East: Energy transition and post-oil economies (Immersive Module) *
  • The future for Southeast Asia Economies: regionalisation and de-globalisation (Immersive Module) 

*Only available as online distance learning modules or at the University of Birmingham, UK campus.

How to apply

Our Standard Requirements

Age: Min 24 years old

English requirement

  • Minimum C6 Pass in English as 1st Language at GCE ‘O’ level; or
  • TOEFL iBT: 88 (21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking and 21 in Writing); or
  • IELTS 6.5 overall (with at least 6.0 in each band); or
  • Pearson Academic Test of English 59 (in all four skills); or
  • Equivalent.

Admission criteria

  • Standard entry route:
  • A good honours degree (or equivalent); or equivalent professional qualification
  • You must have a minimum of three years' professional experience. Usually we expect Birmingham MBA candidates to have a minimum of five years professional experience. You must demonstrate career progression and managerial responsibilities, which could include people management, budget management or project management

Mature candidate route

  • At least 30 years old, with at least ten years’ work experience and an acceptable qualification below bachelor’s degree

This is a part-time blended programme combining online learning with in-person residential weekends at the Singapore Institute of Management. Each module will be taught online over a 7-week period with residential weekends taking place throughout the year. Residential weekends will run from Fridays to Sundays to enable study to be combined with work commitments.

Delivery schedule

  • Friday: 18:30-22:30 (4 hours)
  • Saturday: 9:30-17:30 (8 hours)
  • Sunday 9:30-17:30 (8 hours)

You will have access to the School intranet which provides a continuing source of support and access to module teachers. Infrastructure support is provided by our local partners who are in constant communication with the Business School in Birmingham.

Our classes and seminars stimulate critical thinking and discussion. All to equip you with vital business skills, such as analysis, negotiation and synthesis. By working on case study assignments in small groups, you’ll also link theory to practical situations, building your interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
