Urban, Digital and Creative Futures

The Urban, Digital and Creative Futures theme encompasses the work of social, cultural and digital geographers as well as urban and regional planners. We are developing creative solutions to emerging challenges facing 21st century cities, particularly in the context of rapid technological and climate change.
Our work examines cross-cutting themes around creative and cultural economy, neurourbanism and AI, smart cities, digital methodologies, political ecology, urbanity and wellbeing, and questions around spatial and strategic urban design and planning. We examine the impacts of rapid urban change on a range of different demographics, including children, older people, the incarcerated, migrants and vulnerable communities across minority and majority contexts.
As a group, we contribute to social and political impact by engaging with communities, public agencies, industry, and national and international policymakers.
