SOCQER-2 in India

Tata Medical Center is a newly built tertiary care cancer centre (2011) in Kolkata which caters the whole Eastern India and neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.

Team: The gynaecological oncology unit comprises of 4 consultants, 4 specialty oncology fellows and additional visiting fellows/ observers, one clinical nurse specialist, medical social worker, clinical trial coordinator and data manager. Both clinical and translational research is an integral part of the departmental activity being led by Dr Asima Mukhopadhyay in collaboration with Tata Translational Cancer Research Center and other national/ international cancer research and basic science institutes.

The Tata Medical Centre also maintains a Tissue Biobank for other research outlets that provides bio-specimens for a range of scientific studies.

The Surgery in Ovarian Cancer – Quality of Life Evaluation Research study, India Cohort (SOCQER IND) is a prospective observational cohort study to assess Quality of Life (QoL) after surgical treatment for advanced ovarian cancer. This is a collaborative effort between the UK and India with the aim of collecting data and eventual analysis.

“SOCQER-2 team at University of Birmingham, UK, has produced EORTC validated questionnaire of QLQ-OV28 and CR-29 in Bengali version, in collaboration with Kolkata team. This will help patients, clinicians and researchers in capturing patient reported outcomes (Quality of life) across Bengali speaking communities throughout the world.
