The Eraser Trial is a NIHR HTA funded trial that has been designed by world leading experts in Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Medicine.  The trial will be managed by the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU), which is part of the University of Birmingham. 

The first point of contact if you are interested in the Eraser Trial either as a researcher, relative, charity or Patient, Public, Involvement  or engagement partner (PPI) is always the Eraser BCTU Team.

The Eraser Trial has one Chief Investigator and 2 Co-Investigators.  The Chief Investigator (CI) is the overall lead researcher responsible for the trial's conduct and reporting.  The Co-Investigators are individuals who provide significant intellectual input and may be responsible for the day-to-day running of certain aspects of the study.

Professor Tonny Veenith MBBS, PhD(Cantab), MRCP, FRCA, EDIC, FFICM. 

Professor of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Acute Care Medicine, University of Wolverhampton. 

Professor Tonny Veenith is passionate about improving access to research for the local community and reducing inequalities in healthcare.

Professor Fang Gao Smith OBE Department of Inflammation and Ageing    Fang Gao
Professor in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain

Professor Fang Gao Smith is passionate about embedding a research culture in the NHS for anaesthesia and critical care. She has influenced the academic development of her field at national level as an expert panel member contributing to the founding of the National Institute for Academic Anaesthesia. She has also had international impact in spreading good clinical trial practice in China, directing a Joint Clinical Research Centre with the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit.

Professor Babu Naidu Department of Inflammation and Ageing;              

Professor of Surgery.

Professor Babu Naidu is a senior respiratory researcher at University of Birmingham.  He has worked on many clinical trials which have aimed at preventing and treating pneumonia as well as reducing complications and improving diagnosis for patients.
