The Birmingham Institute for Sustainability and Climate Action (BISCA) invites you to be part of a diverse group of academics, industry leaders and sustainability practitioners, to explore how diversity fuels innovation in achieving sustainability goals.
We will be diving into how diversity is vital to driving innovation and bringing together purpose-driven professionals in sustainability to share their experiences and perspectives. There will also be ample networking opportunities during the event to connect with one another and explore how interdisciplinarity sparks exciting new ideas. Join us for an afternoon of fireside style discussions, inspirational speakers and dedicated networking.

Scarlett Allen-Horton
BBC Apprentice Finalist and business partner to Lord Sugar; Innovative entrepreneur committed to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI); EDI ambassador and advisor to the Recruitment Employment Confederation UK.
Scarlett Allen-Horton is a highly accomplished recruitment leader, BBC Apprentice Finalist, innovative entrepreneur and founder of the multi award-winning Harper Fox Partners. Scarlett is also a keynote speaker, business coach, business partner to Lord Sugar, RFC board advisor and voluntary ambassador for numerous charitable and purpose driven organisations.
Scarlett’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is demonstrated by her role as an EDI ambassador and advisor to the Recruitment Employment Confederation UK and numerous voluntary initiatives. In addition, she serves as a board committee advisor to the UK Black Business Show and is a judge for the REC Awards and Black Talent Awards.

ZeZe Sohawon
Founder of Emotion Dysregulation in Autism (EDA)
ZeZe is a Neuroscience undergraduate student at the University of Birmingham and Founder of Emotion Dysregulation in Autism (EDA) - A lived experience-led mental health charity for Autistic Young People. ZeZe also was selected to go to the United nations for an Innovation Lab in 2024, working towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Alex Johl
EDI Project Manager and Co-Chair of the Race Equality Network, University of Birmingham
Alex is an EDI Project Manager within the ED&I & Wellbeing team in HR, supporting Central Services and Academic Colleges in advancing their ED&I and Wellbeing agendas. Passionate about fostering innovation in ED&I and Wellbeing, he is committed to creating a positive impact on the staff community. As Co-Chair of the University’s Race Equality Network, he represents a community of staff from minoritised backgrounds.
Liliana Rose
Associate Director – Social Value & Communities, Binnies
Liliana is an Associate Director in Binnies’ Sustainability Team with over 20 years of experience in the water and environment sector. Liliana has led flood resilience projects while building and managing diverse teams. More recently, she has driven Binnies’ sustainability transformation and corporate social value strategy.
