Co-Production with Family Carers
What is co-production with family carers of people with learning disabilities?
‘We define co-production in research as relevant stakeholders (e.g. family carers) working as equal partners with researchers, at the earliest stages of a project, to share their lived experience. This ensures research is shaped around real-world experience and can make a positive difference to the lives of people with a learning disability and their families, for example through changes to services and support.’*
* This definition was co-produced with family carers and researchers during the Co-production project at the University of Warwick.
Family Carer Co-production Group
We are establishing a Family Carer Co-production Group (FCCG) to work with our researchers in IDRIS and beyond. We aim to have two ways in which family carers can get involved i) a core membership of family carers and ii) a wider group of family carers who can dip in and out of research depending on the type of research and role.
Our current family carer group
Our current family carer advisory group members are:
- Debbie Austin
- Sharon Foxwell
- Jo Griffin
- Lucy Hasler
- Richard Hastings
- John Lynham
- Saira Minhas
- Alexander White
If you're a family carer and you want to learn more about getting involved with our work, please contact us at idris@contacts.bham.ac.uk
Co-Production Resources
Our co-production work builds on a previous project with family carers, undertaken at the University of Warwick, co-producing a toolkit for researchers and guidance for family carers who are involved in research.
