Partnerships and Collaborations

MoveWell welcomes opportunities for partnerships and collaborations with internal groups and external Institutions and Trusts who share our goals of improving the physical and mental health of those in our diverse local communities.

Through joint ventures we are able to deliver excellence in research, education and service provision.

If you would like to discuss opportunities to work with us, we would be delighted to hear from you movewellcentre@contact.bham.ac.uk

Please see below for information about some of our existing partnerships:

Muscular Dystrophy Service Centre (MDSC)

The MDSC has partnered with us to expand their Birmingham-based service user offering, which has improved access to therapy and state-of-the-art exercise equipment for even more individuals who need them.

The collaboration is also serving to enhance student training opportunities and research into rare neuromuscular conditions.

NHS Foundation Trusts Birmingham

Liver Clinic

We are providing exercise rehabilitation and research assessment facilities for patients to improve their physical function and fitness following a liver transplant.

The sessions are fully supervised by NHS specialist physiotherapists in liver care and data collected from these activities will be used to gain a better understanding of the positive impact of movement and exercise on both physical and mental health for those who are recovering from a transplant.

Cardio Respiratory Class

As part of the recovery process, cardiac respiratory patients are encouraged to regain their strength, confidence and stamina through a gradual build-up of physical activity and exercise. MoveWell has partnered with the cardiac rehabilitation team from the Queen Elizabeth hospital to provide exercise facilities that will aid in the cardiac recovery process so that everyday activities become easier and the risk of future cardiac events is reduced.

Holland & Barrett

We have a great and growing partnership with the Holland and Barrett Community Wellness Team who offer a supportive and inspiring pathway to healthier living.

As part of their ‘Let’s Talk Sessions’, MoveWell has hosted biometric body scanners providing over 100 participants with a comprehensive breakdown of body composition which can aid in the assessment of overall health and identify potential health risks, empowering people to take charge of their health.

Other activities include wellness talks to provide education and advice on maintaining mental and physical health and we are currently discussing a range of physical activities that can be jointly promoted and managed here in MoveWell.

Alzheimer’s Research UK & Royal Voluntary Service

MoveWell is working in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Royal Voluntary Service to provide a stimulating, fun and inclusive space for people living with dementia (and their carers) to join in with social activities in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Cognitive stimulation activities will be fully supported by trained physiotherapists and participants will also be able to contribute to future research design led by Assistant Professor Richard Elsworthy.

West Midlands Fire Service

We are collaborating with the West Midlands Fire Service to provide their staff with Musculo skeletal physiotherapy care that will aid in the prevention, treatment and recovery of a range of conditions following illness or injury.
