Joint Health for Primary Care JH referrals
Joint pain and arthritis are common conditions that affect over 10 million people in the UK. Arthritis is a condition characterised by painful, stiff or restricted joints. These symptoms are common in a range of conditions including osteoarthritis (OA), axial spondyloarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout.
Clinical trials have shown that the following have been extremely beneficial in the management of joint pain:
- Regular low impact exercise
- Resistance training
- Improving Cardiovascular fitness
- Diet and nutrition to manage weight and help keep joints healthy
- Meditation and relaxation to assist pain management
The MoveWell Centre has developed a Joint Health Programme that may have been recommended to you by your GP. This pilot program will offer potential OA patients a 6-week tailored program aimed at managing and improve joint pain.
The programme consists of:
- An individual assessment with one of our highly skilled and experienced resident Physiotherapists
- A 6-week intervention program of exercise sessions and education/discussion.
- A follow up review/assessment
All exercise sessions will be supervised by resident physiotherapists and student physiotherapists who have work placements in MoveWell as part of their University of Birmingham degree programme.
If you would like to take part in this programme please complete the self-referral form below.
Costs: As this is a pilot scheme, there will be no charge for this service.
At the end of the pilot scheme, the cost will be £30.00 for this 6-week programme.
