Joint Replacement Rehabilitation Clinic
The MoveWell joint replacement rehabilitation clinic is designed for individuals who are either awaiting or have undergone joint replacement surgery. Led by fully qualified and highly experienced orthopaedic physiotherapists, this clinic provides personalised education and exercise to help optimise preparation for, and enhance recovery following joint replacement.
Pre-operative education and exercise interventions can improve health, function, quality of life, and possibly delay or even negate the need for surgical intervention and improve post operative outcomes.
Programme of activity
Activities of this clinic include:
Pre-operative assessment (up to 2 weeks prior to replacement surgery)
- An assessment of your joint including range of motion, level of function, strength and balance.
- Personalised goals for post-operative recovery.
- A programme of individualised movement and exercise that will include eight sessions in our specialised HUR gym.
Post-operative assessments
- One-to-one follow up assessments will take place at weeks 2,6 and 10 following joint replacement surgery to monitor recovery and function.
- An exit consultation will include a discussion about strategies to ensure long-term adoption of an active lifestyle.
Acceptance criteria:
- Aged 18 or over.
- Have a confirmed requirement for joint replacement surgery or be recovering from joint replacement surgery.
- Have a copy of their joint replacement surgery operation notes
- Be able to mobilise independently or with the aid of a zimmer frame or elbow crutches.
- Have had a dressing review, if post operative.
- Have no evidence of infection or blood clot / DVT.
- Be willing and able to engage in rehabilitation.
