Environmental Engineering

Environmental Engineering at Birmingham embraces the key topics of water engineering (its purification, energy generation from waste water through anaerobic digestion and how we manage the natural water cycle to serve our needs), geotechnical engineering (engineering in harmony with the ground), infrastructure monitoring and assessment and general urban living (managing and designing effective cities which will serve us in the future).

Opportunities

This active research group is always looking for good postgraduate research candidates. For general enquiries, please contact us (details below) or search on the Postgraduate Research Degrees web pages. PhD and MPhil opportunities are available. Dr Nicole Metje from the Environmental Engineering research group at the University of Birmingham introduces the work of the group.

Transcript

Welcome to the environmental engineering website. We are a research group consisting of several academics, research fellows and PhD students. We cover a range of different topics from geotechnical engineering to environmental engineering, and even water quality. Some of the sort of projects we do consist are called "mapping in the world" or "assessing the in the world",  which focuses on buried pipes. We look at coming up with sensors, we look at slope stability, we look at water quality. We try to optimize sewage treatment plants so there are a number of different projects. If this is of interest to you or you've got further questions, please get in touch with us.
